Diospyros kaki Creveld: World Tree~by Marijke Creveld. A proving of the World Tree, or Diospyros kaki, which survived near the impact site of the Nagasake plutonium bomb.~The Nagasaki kaki tree stands for the end of World War II, an end to destruction, domination, rape, dearth and running away. The tree stands for survival and a new hope.

Marijke Creveld carried out a dream proving from the Diospyros kaki and found that it possessed many characteristics that may cure illnesses caused by radioactivity. The themes which emerged have to do with:

Dynamic Materia Medica: Syphilis~by Jeremy Sherr. The purpose of this book is to amalgamate a number of parallel concepts into a unified and holistic composition that reflects the intrinsic nature of homoeopathy.~There are three concepts key in this text:

The first concept is to create multidimensional remedy pictures. Using a left and right brain approach, this book weaves old and new provings, toxicology, physiology, clinical experience, poetry, stories, alchemy, ancient text and modern film into a holistic materia medica. Each remedy is presented in a different way to demonstrate the many facets of materia medica.

To my mind this proving in 1999 will be the one remembered for the wickedness of the head aches I gave myslef as I prepared the remedy. I have decided never to do this to myself; ever again. Awful headaches, and then the impulse to protect and mother.

I recently read an article about the possibility that SARS may have been spread by the cockroach. If any part of this is true then this proving is going to be of immense value. I have now used it extensively in my clinic and taught the use of it and the symptoms of this proving widely. I recall the bizarre symptoms of swelling of the legs and the exhaustion, deep and profound exhaustion which was created in these grumpy provers in 2002. The difficulty in respiration, and the fatigue, oh my god! the fatigue. The symptoms were firmly centred in the respiratory system and the incapacity to breath was deeply troublesome. Married to the other provings of Blatta this information will serve to solidify our previously shakey assertions about this remedy.

BUFO RANA; COMMON TOAD
Early last century, a small minded agriculturalist with finger nail vision imported the cane toad from Peuto Rico to Queensland to take care of the cane beetle that compromised the sugar cane crops. The rest is an appalling history. These beasts have taken over, eat anything, kill native fauna and anything that moves. Some love them as pests. Some run them over as a duty; in fact it’s considered unaustralian not to line them up and get as many as you can. Others use them to practice some golf swings and I must admit that there is some satisfaction to thwacking the pest that is destroying the countryside and improving your game at the same time. Others boil them down and drink the juice in the absence of other hallucinogenic excitement. The cane toad has much similarity to the toad proven here. The predominant residue from the proving was dumbness and an utter inability to think.

CACTUS GRANDIFLORUS; CACTUS
Cactus grandiflorus was a small but valuable proving. I feel the results here will ultimately complement our understanding of the remedy as it is used currently. It produced the mos extrodianary flushes of heat. Cutting, stabbing and pressure in the chest. Blood circulating like fire.

HIPOCAMPUS KUDA; SEAHORSE
This proving was conducted to complement the more recent proving conducted in the USA. Seahorses are in trouble arounds the world. They are struggling in their environments with the onslaught of human encroachment. They are endlessly fascinating. A massive one was washed up on Bondi beach the other day with the autumnal post cyclonic swells that battered the coast. Given their extrodinary nature I was surpised at the blandness of the symptoms given its animal origin. Perhaps it goes to confirm that only truly toxic substances in the wild make for the best provings.

WARATAH
The glorious New South Wales icon. 'She now felt such inconsolable grief that she willed herself to die, her body blending slowly into the weathered sandstone. And rising from the spot came the first waratah. The stalk hard, straight, and without blemish, like the young man Krubi had pined for, the leaves serrated and pointed like his spear.' This red flower is used in the Australian bush flower essences. And this proving from 2005 goes a long way to describe the liberated internal nature of it.

LIQUORICE
In herbal medicine no other plant has such diversity; anti inflammatory and anti viral properties. Massive amounts of time and money are being poured into the understanding of the pharmacology of this plant in orthodox, Chinese and western herbal medicine. This proving brings out the inside. Discharges and throat pain, headaches and nausea.

TEA TREE
Every pharmacy sells it. Known for its anti everything qualities this Australian tree begged for a proving. In this trial I received a huge amount of assistance from Dr Carol Pedersen. It was no easy ride. 'I'm very fearful of this remedy; I just want to flush it down the toilet. I felt as if I was stoned, as if I was getting a cold. Nausea and grumbling in my tummy and paranoia. KAURI
While available on Misha Norland's website, this remedy profile, in my opinion needed another addition. You learn a lot in 13 years. This is the third edition and there are some changes. It is such a stunning tree and an icon of New Zealand. Somber, dark and majestic. Teaching the remedy for the first time in 1998 in the Wellington ICCH conference was an experience. Some slept, some wept. It seemed to polarize people. 'Who's that wanker said one?' But certainly the emails letters and requests for the medicine followed, as did the reports of great results and cures.

KOWHAI
This is the national flower of New Zealand. Stunningly yellow. It has a rich history and use by Maori in traditional medicine. Its colour and its pharmacology lend to the hypothesis that it has an affinity for the liver and possible use in the treatment of hepatitis.

CULEX
Easily my favourite proving and the remedy of all those that I have been a part of proving that I have prescribed more than any other. While proved in Australia at the Sydney College of Homeopathic Medicine the mosquito itself is a New Zealand one Culex pervigilens.

PEARL
This was completed in 1999. Years ago. It stayed in the bowels of my computer for ages before I again looked at it. The reason for its revival here is twofold. Peter Tumminello in 2005 published a great book 12 Jewels including the information about Pearl. It then encouraged me to think about the original proving and the quality of the work the provers that year put into the work and the process. While slightly sparser, the proving here is published for them. It has no connection with New Zealand at all. It is included here because I had to put it somewhere. Provings~by Rajan Sankaran. A discussion of the provings of Black Mamba, Coca-Cola, Crotalus Cascavella, Lac Caprinum, Lac Defloratum, Lac Humanum, Lac Leoninum, Niccolum, Ocumum Sanctum and Polystyrenum.~ In presenting the provings, Dr. Sankaran has deliberately left out any summary or conclusions. Although at the end of each proving, he did discuss and connecting proving data to the substance itself, he says, these to be his own ideas and does not wish that the readers get fixated to my views of the proving the reason is that while sometimes the links are clear and revealing, it is always possible that one may try to force such a link and take poetic licence with the proving data. He says "the danger of whole proving matter being presented by a person nearing coloured glasses is similar to the danger of case-taking with prejudice.
